Creating Sacred Space
Eight transformative lessons using sunflower gardening to teach earth science, plant biology, mathematics, mindfulness, and the integration of the personal self and sacred self. For learners K–12.
"Alone we are miracles, together we are miraculous."
— Scott Wright, The Sunflower Circle
This journey began in 2011 when Scott Wright first planted sunflowers in his garden. Led by intuition and an open heart, he began to feel a powerful connection and relationship with nature. He sensed a feeling of gratitude within him — and recognized that the garden offered gifts both tangible and intangible.
As the years passed, Scott began to see things differently. He began to realize something more to life than what he knew. He began to see with Real Eyes — and understood that nature was reflecting his own inner beauty back to him.
His desire is for children and adults alike, all over the world, to understand this message and experience their own inner worth in the reflections of beauty in nature. The Sunflower Circle — Creating Sacred Space is the living expression of that vision.

Each lesson weaves together science, mathematics, language arts, personal development, and mindfulness — all rooted in the direct experience of growing sunflowers.
Set a sacred intention for the growing season. Explore what it means to be fully present. Understand why intentions matter in both gardening and life.
Prepare the soil, learn the science of nutrients, and discover the deep connection between caring for the earth and caring for ourselves.
Watch the sunflowers bloom and discover your own unique beauty. Explore plant anatomy, growth stages, and the metaphors they offer for human flourishing.
Explore the living community of the garden — bees, birds, bacteria, and beyond. Learn how every member of the ecosystem depends on every other.
Discover the Fibonacci sequence hidden in the sunflower's spiral seeds. Explore fractals, symmetry, and the mathematical beauty of the natural world.
Practice being present in the sacred space of the garden. Develop mindfulness skills through sensory observation, breathwork, and silent reflection.
After months of patient care, harvest the sunflowers together. Explore the life cycle, practice seed mathematics, and celebrate what was grown.
Mark the end of the growing season with ceremony and gratitude. Reflect on what was learned — about nature, community, and your own sacred self.
